Climbing to the utmost heights of Mount Everest is what most people liken getting healthy to. It is the pinnacle goal we all strive towards in our daily endeavor. But what if getting healthy wasn’t as complicated as we all made it out to be? If you look up healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, you would find endless supplies of books, recipes, websites and blogs lol this one included! But what if we just made it simple. No fancy recipes, just real food? No fancy exercises just move more? And no complicated meditation routine just breathe? We often tout various diets as the best diet for weight loss or anti aging etc. The Mediterranean diet is one such diet that has been touted the most proven and researched diet for improving health. But this diet is simply a way of living for people who live in the Mediterranean continents. The food is simple, whole and fresh and they eat it with their families and in relaxed social settings. It begs the question: do we over complicate our weeknight meals- do we feel they have to measure up to the taste bud sensation at our local Chinese restaurant or Indian restaurant? Having real and whole and fresh food is your key to living a real and whole life, we need to get back to basics and simply prepare simple whole foods again, not stressing over the dinner but relaxing, using good fats and oils from whole foods and eating fresh and whole tomatoes and eggplants and carrots and fish. It might take an adjustment from our taste buds which might be more used to Texas BBQ meats and Beef and black beans sauce. Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with these meals they can be a great celebration food, but they were not meant to be a staple. Eating out isn’t supposed to be our norm! Eating whole and fresh should be our norm- for me that can sometimes look like a roasted sweet potato with broccolini and Tuna or salmon and sour cream on the side or yogurt. It could also simply mean roasted or BBQ salmon and salad on a plate. Real food doesn’t always need to be fancy, but if you don’t have real food in your pantry cooking where do you start?
